Croatian exports fell by 5.5 percent and imports by 2.6 percent

In the period from beginning of this year until the end of July, Croatia exported goods to overseas market worth 38.6 billion, which is for 5.5 percent less than the same period last year, while imports fell by 2.6 percent, to 70.5 billion kuna, according first results released today by the Central Bureau of statistics (CBS).

Such developments in the first seven months of this year have resulted in lack of foreign trade of 31.9 billion kuuna, which is for  1.1 percent more than deficit in seven months of last year.

At the same time coverage of imports reduced by exports, by 1.7 percentage points to 54.7 percent.

The first results of the CBS show that in the first seven months of this year Croatia exported goods on the markets of other EU countries is for 23.7 billion kuna, or 0.3 percent more than the same period last year, while imports from these countries is at the same time, decreased by 1.6 percent to 51.9 billion kuna.

From CBS points out that since  July 1st, since Croatian accession to the EU, they are applying new methodological criteria including  data of import and EU member state  are processed according to country of dispatch, and not according to the principle of the country origin. As a result, previously published data by Member States and non-member countries are different from today published data.

Namely, by Croatian Accession to EU, statistics data on foreign trade with foreign countries are derived from two different sources, ie from the Intrastat form of statistics of trade between Member States (Intrastat) and the Single Administrative Document for trade statistics with non-member countries (Extrastat).

Croatian exports to countries outside of EU for the first seven months of this year amounted to 14.8 billion kuna, and is  13.6 percent lower than in the first seven months of last year, while imports from these countries at the same time decreased by 5.3 percent to 18,6 billion.
