The Macedonian government reported that the country has no regulation which allows the import of GMO food , and that it will work on adoption of an appropriate legal framework which will clearly prevent the import of genetically modified food.

This government’s reaction came after a  public debate on the import of GMO food about which some experts have expressed doubt about its true quality in Macedonia.

In the statement issued by the governement, says that government failed to  made a  decison about the import of GMO food, and that Prime Minister Nikola Grujevski has not signed a regulation or a decison which would allow the import of GMO food and that any claim was not filed to Agency of Food and Veterinary nor it has given authorization for placing the GMO food on the market for humans and animals.
