Investments in the north of Montenegro, which are urgently needed, would contribute to the balanced development of the country and help curb emigration.
This was stated by the President of the Municipality of Kolašin, Petko Bakić, in an interview with Bankar, in response to questions about how he views the arrival of United Arab Emirates (UAE) investor Mohamed Alabbar in the north of Montenegro and whether potential investments could contribute to the development of Kolašin.
“The north of Montenegro, with its natural resources, is certainly attractive to many investors, as it offers numerous opportunities for investments in tourism, agriculture, and energy. The Municipality of Kolašin, like other municipalities in the north, has presented ideas for potential investments, and regardless of which municipality the projects are implemented in, they would undoubtedly have a positive impact on the development of the entire northern region,” said Bakić.
He added that the Economic Cooperation Agreement with the UAE, adopted by the Montenegrin Parliament, is only the first step that opens the door to the realization of specific investments.
“I believe the entire process should be transparent, and in municipalities where there is public uncertainty, the option of holding a local referendum on the matter should be used, so the entire community is involved in the decision-making process,” Bakić concluded.
