Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić’s working visit to the United Arab Emirates attracted significant attention from state-owned and leading UAE media outlets, which portrayed his meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as an important step toward strengthening the economic and political ties between the two countries.
Unlike the limited information made available to the domestic public in Montenegro, Emirati media extensively covered the meeting held in Abu Dhabi, reporting that the main topics of discussion included the economy, trade, investments and renewable energy, as well as regional security, the stability of global energy markets and developments in the Middle East.
State news agency WAM, whose reports were carried by the National Media Authority, ARN News Centre, Dubai Eye and other UAE media outlets, highlighted that the two sides discussed “expanding cooperation in line with the development priorities of both countries,” while reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and long-term economic partnership.
Particular attention in the Emirati media was given to the energy sector and renewable energy projects, at a time when Montenegro is intensifying contacts with UAE companies in the fields of green transition and infrastructure investment. The Government of Montenegro had previously announced that the visit would also include a meeting with UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, who also serves as chairman of Masdar, one of the world’s largest investors in renewable energy.
The growing momentum in relations between Podgorica and Abu Dhabi is further underscored by the fact that Montenegro and the UAE signed a memorandum of cooperation in the energy sector late last year, while additional talks on investments, sustainability and green energy were held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

Emirati media also placed special emphasis on the Montenegrin prime minister’s position regarding security developments in the Middle East. “The National”, one of Abu Dhabi’s most influential media outlets, highlighted in its headline that Spajić reiterated Montenegro’s condemnation of Iranian attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in the UAE, describing them as a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.
Additional weight to the meeting was given by the composition of the Emirati delegation. According to official UAE information, the meeting was attended by UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, representatives of the Presidential Court and several senior state officials.
Prime Minister Spajić’s visit to Abu Dhabi comes amid intensifying economic cooperation between Montenegro and the UAE, particularly in the areas of energy, investments, infrastructure and sustainable development — sectors that the Emirates have increasingly positioned as key pillars of their international partnerships in recent years.
It is also worth recalling that, on behalf of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State Noura Al Kaabi attended the official celebration marking the 20th anniversary of Montenegro’s restored independence in Podgorica on May 21.
