Blockade of wheat from Macedonia hurting farmers

With the removal of the conditional measures on imports of wheat  Kosovo ecomomy started to feel its effects. Farmers are already emphasize that increasing demands for grain, and as a result the price per kilogram has increased.

For Azem Godanci, this year was not very successful in terms of sales of wheat. Largest market he had in Macedonia, but he suffered  restrictions which Macedonian state had given to the farmer. He explained that the removal of the conditional measures on imports of wheat by the Government of Macedonia, the situation has begun to move in positive terms.

But it is not just Azem Godanci who suffered from the blockade. Elmi Thaci said that there was considerable damage, not in terms of grain breaking material, but in financial terms. “Since we have our combines this year we got more wheat than before. We have accounted for a much higher price, because we do not have thought that created these problems that block us . Now we do not know what to do with this grain. A 50kg bag we calculate 21 euros, and now has dropped to 11 euros by bag. It cost us a lot, “said Thaci.

Meanwhile, the Macedonian Government, after evaluation of market stabilization, took the decision to remove the blockade.

This example would have to follow the Kosovo, said Elmi. “It is very strange that if Kosovo does not protect its manufacturers as protect other countries in the region. This will ensure the market for each product that the farmer produces in Kosovo”. Besides wheat, the measures are expected to be abolished for conditional import of flour, as this segment of the market has stabilized. This could happen by mid-September.
