Alarming news about unemployment in Kosovo

Statistical Agency (KSA), has published a report on the results of Monday’s Labour Force Survey for 2012, where it is said that the population of working age is the age of 15-64 years and includes two thirds of the population. Under the AKP, the workforce is composed of persons employed and unemployed persons.

According to Chief of the Statistics Agency of Kosovo, Isa Krasniqi, the working age population 63.1 percent are not economically active, while 36.9 percent of the economically active population, 30.9 percent are unemployed.

“Among the people the labor unemployment is much higher for women than for men, and it is 40 per cent compared with 28.1 per cent. Youth unemployment is much higher where among young persons, ie from 15-24 years old, 55.3 percent were without work. Most of those who are employed says  report  are working full-time, ie 88.9 percent of employees reported that work full time in their work, “said Krasniqi.

The office manager of the World Bank in Kosovo, Jan-Peter Olters, said that high unemployment rates are alarming. He said that a very high percentage of young people who are unemployed, do not attend education or training.

“There are high unemployment rates that are alarming 30.9 percent for the 12 months of 2012, but the rates  show extremely low employment of young people especially those who make specific clarifications. To be more precise it is a very high percentage of young people who are unemployed do not attend school or training. It belongs to the Kosovars 35.1 percent between 15-24 high percentage of women, “said Olters.

Otherwise, this survey  is extended methodological aspect in 600 Enumeration throughout the territory of Kosovo which interviewed 4,800 households. KSA said updated survey of the labor force in 2012 has some significant improvements compared with previous surveys.
