President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, by phone about the reasons for returning to the Parliament of Montenegro the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the UAE.
According to a post from the Office of the President of Montenegro on the social network X, the phone call was initiated by the UAE side.
“President Milatović emphasized that Montenegro remains committed to strengthening and further developing relations with the United Arab Emirates, as our country’s important and credible partner. This is also confirmed by the fact that President Milatović signed the Law on the Ratification of the Economic Cooperation Agreement between Montenegro and the UAE, which encourages future cooperation between the two countries in their mutual interest. Additionally, President Milatović informed his interlocutor of the reasons for returning to Parliament the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the UAE,” the post on Milatović’s X account reads.
It is further stated that Milatović specified that the Agreement significantly deviates from the legal framework of Montenegro.
“In that sense, the President explained that the Agreement in question was not defined and formulated in an adequate and legally valid manner, and that it could endanger Montenegro’s national interests as well as its EU path. Therefore, in its current form, it cannot receive his support. President Milatović invited the minister to visit Montenegro so that, through open dialogue, the two friendly sides could find a solution aligned with Montenegro’s legal framework and the country’s EU integration, while also contributing to strengthening cooperation in the mutual interest.”
The statement also notes that Al Nahyan thanked Milatović for the open and friendly conversation, which will continue in the future.
